This help file will explain the rules and procedures for uploading files to the
CBMART Data Libraries.
Uploading to the Data Libraries on CBMART Forum is not charged to your Account
so we hope many of you will be willing to share your own programs or known
"Public Domain" programs. A Copyrighted program can only be uploaded by
the Author or Holder of the Copyright or by someone else who has the explicit
permission of the Author for uploading it here to the CompuServe CBMART Forum.
The Sysops will test every file submitted to the Data Libraries to
determine that:
o The file downloads correctly.
o If a program that it runs.
o No copyright violations are evident.
The Sysops will NOT evaluate programs nor debug them, merely insure that they
have been correctly uploaded. If you have any questions about how a program
works, please contact the person who uploaded the file. Their ID# will appear
in [square brackets] on the first line of the description of the file. Or leave
a message to Sysop and we will help you all that we possibly can.
To UPLoad a file into the CBMART Data Libraries, at the DL # ! Access
prompt either select UPLoad from the Access Menu or enter directly at
the Access prompt --
upl filnam.ext
To UPLoad a file into the Data Libraries, you must provide a CompuServe
filename. This is the name under which the file will be stored in the Data
Library. The filename on your diskette can be anything you chose to name it.
A Data Library filename (filnam.ext) has two parts -- the filnam part and
the extension part.
The filnam part before the .ext may have a maximum of six (6) characters
and/or numbers. The only Special Character allowed in the filnam part is a
dash (and it may NOT be the first character of the filnam part) and there
may NOT be any Spaces within this six-character filnam part. For example:
GAME64.IMG
GAME64 is the filenam part and the .IMG is the extension part. Before
selecting any extension, please make a note of the VALID ones you may choose
and their designated purpose.
When UPLoading a Program Type file with VIDTEX4.2 or B-Protocol, then the
extension should be .IMG and you must select "Image" from the "Transfer
Type" Menu that will be displayed for your selection.
When UPLoading a Program Type file with XMODEM Protocol, then the
extension should be .BIN and you must select "Binary" from the "Transfer
Type" Menu that will be displayed for your selection.
When UPLoading a SEQuential Data File that may be a part of your Program Type
files, then use .IMG and select "Image" if using VIDTEX (B-Protocol) or
use .BIN and select "Binary" if using XMODEM Protocol. This rule will apply
to any Berkeley Softworks GEOS Converted files. Please see the files in
"The GEOS Connection" Data Library 13 named:
VIDGEO.HLP
or
XMOGEO.HLP
for further details on GEOS files and the GEOS Conversion files.
When UPLoading any other Type of Text information then select "ASCII" from
the "Transfer Type" Menu that will be displayed for your selection.
Here is a Table that will explain the various extensions and "Transfer Types"
to select for UPLoading files to the CBMART Data Libraries:
.ext Explanation Transfer
Type
.IMG = Program Files uploaded with VIDTEX4.2 (B-Protocol) Image
.BIN = Program Files uploaded with the XMODEM Protocol Binary
.DOC = Text or ASCII Documentation for Program Files ASCII
.TXT = Text/Information ASCII Files ASCII
.SEQ = BASIC Source Listings of Programs ASCII
.THD = ASCII Text ARChived Threads ASCII
(saved Messages from the Forum's Message Base)
.CNF = ASCII Transcripts of On-Line COnferences ASCII
.ASM = ASCII CBM Source Assembler Files ASCII
.PIC = ASCII Text Alphanumeric Picture Files ASCII
.HLP = ASCII Text On-Line Help Files ASCII
.ASC = ASCII Text/Information Files ASCII
After your file has been transferred from your diskette, there are two items
which the Data Library will need -- the DEScription and KEYWORDs for your
file. These must be entered when requested in order for your UPLoaded file
to be transferred to the actual Data Library.
In your UPLoaded file DESCription, please include the following information:
o Your name
o Author of program, if you are not the Author
o Complete instructions for using your file, if there is not a separate .DOC
file UPLoaded by you.
Please note that there is a Maximum size of 500 characters when typing in your
DEScription.
When entering the KEYWORDs, please be careful to choose KEYWORDs that will allow
Members to effectively search for your file. Choose five to ten words (a
Maximum of 80 characters) which best describe your file and its function. Do
NOT press a <Carriage Return> until you have entered all of your KEYWORDs.
Then your file will be transferred to a special area in the Data Library for
the Sysops to verify your file as described above.
Thank you for sharing and giving the Members of this CBMART Forum a large
selection of files to DOWnload for their enjoyment and information.
We will all look forward to even more additions to our CBMART Data Libraries.
Please remember that UPLoading time to the Data Libraries is free, so we
hope you will be willing to share with all of us.
